No weight loss plan or dietary change is worth killing yourself over.
You don’t ever have to be starving, malnourished, or overexerted to lose weight. And that negative mindset you have around your health program is just going to postpone your progress.
Whenever I talk about being "healthy", I am referring to a multidimensional plan or habit of living that promotes increased physical performance, weight loss, muscle gain, and mental emotional wellbeing. Because being healthy really includes being able to feel confident, loved, and secure in yourself too. So I will always advocate for assessing whether you are happy with your daily routine when creating major changes in your lifestyle...
FOR EXAMPLE:
If you're limping home after every workout and it makes it harder to play with your kids at home... DON'T DO THAT! go a little bit easier in your workouts AND start adding some nutrition/supplements to help your muscles repair themselves quicker.
If you have been dreading meal prepping because you don't love what's on your menu this week, AND you don't feel like shopping, and cleaning and blah... DON'T DO THAT! cook something else that is more desirable, like an easy, 1-pan oven meal that you barely have to think about.
If you get full body orgasms when you eat ice cream and don't want to cut it out of your diet... DON'T DO THAT! just cut back to once a week until you're ready to let go (which may be never).
Stress and bad vibes undermine your progress and make sustainability tougher over time. So make healthy choices that feel good for you. Not just the choices that you have been told you "should" do.
My “wholly” healthy lifestyle includes things like meditation, taking vitamins and herbal remedies, exercising, taking care of my skin, and getting a good night’s rest.
What is the MOST important part of your "wholly" healthy lifestyle?
Meditation/Prayer
Vitamins + Supplements
Natural Remedies and Herbs
Regular Exercise
But the hardest part of staying healthy has always been sticking to my new dietary changes - even though I know "you are what you eat" and what I consume effects my energy levels, mood, weight, and reproductive health.
So the question is how can we regain control over all of those things and start being healthy and happy?...
Consistency.
Start by spending 5-10 minutes daily spend time checking in with your body, and your goals. By keeping log of your meals, activity, and mood you can start figuring out what works best for you and makes you feel the best too.
Make a plan for yourself
Check in with your progress throughout the day
Set 1 goal a week and only add a new goal when you have over 80% success.
Use resources like your Daily Sustenance Diary or MyFitnessPal App.
The most important thing is not avoiding your log on the days you “mess up”. Keep tracking so that you can be realistic about your lows and highs and take notice of your natural cadence.
As you may know, I have a very curvy figure and some extra weight on me, and that's been my body type all my life. So we are in this health journey - navigating changes and reaching our goals together!
It's NEVER too late to improve ourselves and take our commitment to health one step further.
Create your own vision and definition of health for yourself, and start making a plan to get there - one step at a time.
